About:

Dr. Peter W. Chung is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland in College Park.  He serves as the Lead of the Energetics Group in the Center for Engineering Concepts Development.  Prior to joining the faculty at Maryland, Dr. Chung was a team leader in the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen Proving Ground. He is a two-time recipient of the Army Science Conference Best Paper Award, the US Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command’s Outstanding Young Science & Engineer Award, the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award (second highest civilian honor in the Department of Army), and the Baltimore Federal Executive Board’s Bronze Excellence in Federal Career Award. His current research interests are in areas related to machine learning and the physics of phonons, both in their application to materials critical for US national security.
